Angela and Jim

31 Jul

Amidst a heat wave on the East Coast, this wedding season has been a whirlwind of blood, sweat and tears… minus the blood part …and it’s not over yet! Keeping cool has been a top priority this year, because, lets face it, tempers rise as the temperature does. And, lucky for me, so far everyone has kept calm and rolled with the punches. That’s what photographing a wedding is all about after all!

So now that I’ve stepped off my soap box, let’s get down to the good stuff!

This past weekend I travelled down to Cape May, New Jersey in the wee hours of the morning to catch up with a very special bride, Angela. I have never met a woman so relaxed on her wedding day! Heed my warning, brides-to-be, the BEST thing you can do on your wedding day is RELAX. Things moved smoothly throughout the day as we moved from the beach house where her and the brides maids got dressed, to the Cape May beach pavilion and finally to the Lobster House for the reception.

Here’s a few detail shots, the bridal party wore hand made flip flops, and I didn’t hear a single complaint about uncomfortable feet throughout the day!

The wedding was intimate and sweet, as the two were married by the mayor of Cape May, who provided background information on the city of Cape May and the beach itself. Unfortunately, the heat took it out of everyone, so we were unable to get many photos on the beach. I can’t complain though… I wasn’t wearing a tuxedo!

Trust me, Photobooth will be the best way to spend your money, you could seriously spend all night in there!!! haha, But, don’t hog it, and don’t miss the rest of the party! (Remember as well to make sure the photobooth you choose has Awesome props!)

This will actually help your DJ out a lot and it will take the pressure of trying to please everyone off your shoulders, since they will tell you exactly what they want!

If you don’t make a big deal…

parking garage self portraits

23 Jul

I’m currently attending a portrait and event class at Pennsylvania College of Art and Design. Last Monday we were sent out around Lancaster City to complete some self portraits. I have never really enjoyed self portraits. I always found myself shooting things that represented me rather than using my likeness as a model.

Anyway, I realized how much work can go into composing a self portrait, and I actually LOVED the whole process. I guess this is what I’m going to class for… small revelations about myself as a photographer.

Enjoy!

My favorite from this particular shoot was shot on top of the Prince Street Garage moments prior to my fellow photographer and I being told that we had to leave. Security there is pretty tight… apparently…

Neil Turner Photographer

I’ve written about this kind of thing many times but it seems to come to the forefront of my photographic consciousness over and over again so I hope that you will forgive me if none of this is new.

There are a lot of great reasons why photographers have to edit their own work. They are the only ones who truly know what was shot, why it was shot that way and how well the pictures reflect the situation. For news photographers the idea of someone else doing their edits is, largely, a far-fetched and even unwelcome notion. It is happening more and more though.

Some of the big wire agencies and more progressive newspapers are using direct wireless transmission from cameras to editors on big sports and news jobs where the time between shooting the pictures and getting them to market is absolutely critical.

If, however, time is not…

I’m very excited to be part of Mike and Joline’s special day this October! Their wedding with undoubtedly be one for the record books. We walked through Lancaster City to capture a few engagement shots, here’s a little sneak peak

Nick and Julie

I absolutely LOVE beach wedding shoots, and I spared nothing with Nick and Julie to get some great shots. Here’s a behind the scenes look at me at work:

…yep. The three of us got completely soaked, we trashed the dress, and I ended up with a really bad sunburn. All in a days work!

MOMPOPS

Another It’s About Details magazine shoot yielded some great photos! This time, I had the chance to photograph (and eat) some delicious popsicles. These are no ordinary pops either, they are handmade, all natural, sans sugar popsicles. YOU NEED TO TRY THEM! http://mompops.net/

…on the horizon

2 Jun

Just wanted to take a moment to share some wonderful things that are happening in my life and photography career. I’ve been working really hard lately and all of the stress is finally paying off.

First of all, I start my internship with BELLA Pictures today. So for the next six weekends, I’ll be shooting weddings for BELLA with six different professional photographers. I’m most excited to get to see how the different photographers work, and have my work reviewed. So be on the look out for lots of portfolio and website updates!

Second, I’m headed back to school in July! I’ve enrolled in my classes at Pennsylvania College of Art and Design and I can’t wait to get back in the classroom. I strongly believe that as an artist and photographer, you can never stop learning.

June is shaping up to be a busy month for me with my internship and interesting shoots. Can’t wait to post my new photos! Good things are on the horizon!

These photos come from my photo series entitled “Found.” Pretty self explanatory, this series focuses on interesting objects and other things that I find while exploring.

Madonna and Child

30 May

As a member of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s hitREcord online community, I compiled a few photos/art works from other members to create my piece, Madonna and Child. I wanted to take the earliest art renditions of the Virgin Mary with Jesus, and update it.
